EKC Canterbury College celebrates Level 3 Results Day

Today marks an exciting moment for students at EKC Canterbury College as they collect their Level 3 results!

With many securing places at their chosen university, and others preparing to start full-time work or apprenticeships, there was a buzz across at College today as students found out their results.

Mercy is EKC Canterbury College Sixth Form’s first student to go on to study at an Oxbridge University. After studying Politics, Sociology and Religious Studies, she is set to attend Cambridge University in September and study Human, Social and Political Sciences.

“It’s incredible to be the first student from this College to go on to study at Cambridge University,” she said.

“I just hope that I can motivate other people to show them what’s possible. You can do anything.

“The College has given me a lot of opportunities and I had the opportunity to start things I wanted to do like a Charity Club – it’s been really exciting.

“The teachers are very passionate and I’ve had so many lovely teachers. To apply to Cambridge, there’s been a lot of forms to fill out and references I’ve needed the Sixth Form to, and they’ve been great at helping me through the process.”

Mercy was home-schooled for her GCSEs but wanted to get back into the education system for her A Levels.

“I didn’t want to come back to a mainstream school, and I think you’re a lot freer here and feel more like an adult,” she said.

“I was very used to taking control of my own education, so being able to do that here has been great.”

Harris studied Level 3 Animal Management, which is based at Spring Lane Campus. Harris said they loved the environment and being able to work with the animals was fantastic.

“I found my course amazing,” Harris said.

“I loved the environment, I loved being able to work with animals constantly, and I also had the privilege of working under some of the best teachers ever. They had so much knowledge and experience to pass on to me. I can’t recommend it enough.

“When you work at Spring Lane Campus, it is like your own little world. The main Campus can feel like a lot, but Spring Lane Campus is calming in its own way. It’s honestly great.”

After achieving Distinction*, Distinction*, Distinction, Harris is set to go to the University of Kent to study Ecology and Conservation.

Joshua has already secured a job as a CAD (Computer Aided Design) Technician after completing a T Level in Design, Surveying and Planning

“I started my Level 2 course at EKC Broadstairs College,” he said.

“The Level 3 course at EKC Canterbury College felt like it would lead to a lot of jobs I was interested in. I ended up with a Merit, and I have already started working as a CAD Technician at SDS.”

Meanwhile, Amber and Lacie both studied T Level Business and are off to University.

Amber said: “I found this course really interesting and it helped me get an overall view of organisations, and I got a Merit overall.

“I’m going to Swansea University to study Sports, Media and Culture.

“I feel like College has given me a lot more independence, so when I move to Swansea I feel like I’ll be ready for it.”

Lacie added: “I found my course really interesting too. It provides you with a lot of knowledge for your future career, and I also got a Merit.

“I’m going to Canterbury Christ Church University to study HR.

“College definitely provides you with a big step into the future – it’s adulthood, so it’s very exciting.

“College is a great experience, and you should definitely do it!”

Principal of EKC Canterbury College Emily Johnson said: “Today is a day of celebration, and I couldn’t be prouder of our students.

“Every result tells a story of determination, commitment and perseverance, and it has been a privilege to see our students rewarded with excellent results, a testament to the hard work they have put in.

“I hope they take a moment to celebrate everything they have accomplished and reflect on just how much they have achieved.

“Whether they are heading to university, beginning an apprenticeship, continuing their studies, or starting their careers, I wish each and every one of them every success.

“I am confident that their talent, ambition and determination will open many doors, and I look forward to seeing all that they go on to achieve.”
