T Levels are a type of qualification designed to give you a head start towards your chosen career, an apprenticeship or a degree at university.
During your T Level you complete a 45-day work placement within your chosen industry. We caught up with some of our students to find out what they get up to during their work placements and why these are important.
Charlie | T Level Digital Software Development
Charlie completed his work placement with local business, Books2Africa, who have now employed him thanks to the experience.
He said: “Learning about the tech department here has been a real highlight. I’ve learnt so much from the team such as refurbishing computers, phones and tablets. It’s been really eye-opening and putting my skills into practice felt so rewarding.”
Katie | T Level Education and Early Years
Katie felt that her T Level course has given her an advantage for her future and prepared her to go to university.
She said: “You get to do a lot of experiences that you wouldn’t get to do just with a regular A Level route. I did a work placement for two days a week, as well as using the set-up nurseries and classrooms in the department so we get a lot of experience.”
Jensen | T Level Design, Surveying and Planning
Jensen has made a fantastic impression during his work placement with Jenner Group, which is now sponsoring his university degree Oxford Brookes University.
He said: “The course led me to do work experience with Jenner Group, which is a construction company, and from that point, they offered me a Site Trainee position. They’ve been fantastic and have really helped me along the way.”
Amber and Lacie-May | T Level Business Management and Administration
Amber (right) and Lacie-May (left) finished the course at the end of last academic year. We caught up with them as they collected their results and began preparing for university.
Amber said: “I found it really interesting. It helped me get an overview of an organisation as a whole. The course has also given me a lot more independence in myself.”
Work placements are imperative to give students the opportunity to gain practical experience and put the knowledge they’ve learned from the classroom into action. Placements are a glimpse into the industry, helping students to make informed decisions about their career and make important links within the competitive industries.
