Level 2 Brick students at EKC Canterbury College are expanding their subject knowledge with a specialised short course on “Soffit Installation”, delivered by Ian Mitchell, a tutor from the Association of Brick Contractors (ABC).
The course focuses on teaching students how to properly install and secure soffits, an increasingly important component in modern brickwork structures. It is one of a series of additional training opportunities funded by ABC, aimed at equipping students with additional skills to enhance their employability in the Construction industry.

Bricklaying Programme Director, Phil Wood, highlighted the value of these initiatives, saying: “The funded courses have been a great addition to our department, as it means learners have gained additional skills and knowledge to help them get ahead when they start applying for work.”

Throughout the year, students also have access to other ABC-led courses, including Site Planning, Masonry Brickwork, and Wind Post Installation. These opportunities will continue to prepare learners for a successful future in the sector.
