Students have been celebrating today after receiving their GCSE and Level 2 results, marking the culmination of months of hard work and determination.
The atmosphere on campus was full of excitement as learners collected their grades, many achieving results that will propel them to the next step in their education or career.
For some, this means progressing to higher-level courses here at EKC Canterbury College, while others are preparing to begin Apprenticeships or move into employment.
We caught up with some of our successful students to hear their thoughts and what they’re off to do next.
Bailey studied Performing Arts at College and achieved a Distinction.
Speaking about his journey at College, Bailey said that collecting his results doesn’t even feel real.
He said: “This year, I really gave it my all, and on the way here, I was shaking, but it paid off 100%.
“Being at College has been the best year of my life so far, I’ve made a ton of friends, and I’ve gotten used to the environment.
“I’ve enjoyed the course non-stop, and I’ve gotten to do things that I’ve never been able to do before, my confidence has been built up, and it’s just been so beneficial to me.”
Bailey is set to continue his studies at the College by joining the Level 3 Dance course.
Max attended the College to collect his results with his mother, Susie, who was anxiously waiting for him to open the envelope. He studied Level 2 Computing alongside studying GCSE Maths, which he achieved a Grade 4 in.
Susie said: “He’s worked really hard and he deserves it. He came into tutoring on his days off from College, so he took the train and came in for his tutoring session on the Thursday. He worked really hard for it, and I’m absolutely thrilled for him.”
Max plans to progress to a T Level Digital Software Development with the College.
Also celebrating were students on our Academic Progression Pathway. Mohammed achieved a 6 in Maths, a 6 and 5 in Science, and a 4 in English, and is now set to study A Levels at our Sixth Form.
He said: “I feel so relieved. Getting my results has just felt like all the hard work paid off!”
Aubrey, who also studied on our Academic Progression Pathway, brought cupcakes for her friends.
She explained: “Some of my friends were really anxious about whether they’ve passed or not. I decided to bring them cupcakes to cheer them up if they didn’t, or celebrate if they did.
“The best part of College has been meeting new people. I only had one friend at school, but here, I’ve got a group of about 15 friends.”
She plans to progress to our T Level Education and Early Years course if she passes and has an apprenticeship lined up at a local nursery if she does not.
Millie-Shay graduated from EKC Folkestone Junior College last year, which is also part of EKC Group, and has since been studying Level 2 Performing Arts at EKC Canterbury College.
Celebrating with her friends, Millie-Shay said: “It’s so much more relieving to open your results together. I think I would’ve been stuck at the gate if I came alone.
“College has been so good, I had already learnt the lingo at Junior College and learnt some independence.
“Coming into Canterbury showed me how different College is from school. You can go out with your friends at lunchtime, but the responsibility for your success is on you now.”
Our Year 2 students at EKC Canterbury Junior College were also collecting their results today to progress into a higher level and finish their time at the Spring Lane Campus.
Head of Junior College, Alicia Weldon, said: “Their results have shown huge amounts of progress, enabling all of them to progress onto a course for Year 12, which is what Junior College is for. They’ve worked really hard and I’m proud of them.”
Bob McKay, Assistant Principal at EKC Canterbury College supported students as they received their results. He said: “It’s fantastic seeing students come in and get their results – all of the smiling faces and being able to have conversations with students about their next steps.”
Emily Johnson, Principal at EKC Canterbury College said: “This morning was just wonderful to see all of the results and the students celebrating with each other. It was an amalgamation of all of the hard work they’ve put in. We’re all really proud.”
