T Level in Animal Care and Management

Course overview

Designed for students aged 16–19, a T Level combines 80% classroom-based learning with 20% work placement experience with an exciting local employer.

On this T Level, you will gain the skills, knowledge and practical experience needed to build a successful career in animal management.

Study with us and develop a strong foundation in animal care and welfare while building the professional behaviours employers value, such as communication, teamwork and leadership.

There are plenty of employer-set projects, trips, networking opportunities and industry experiences, all of which will help you grow in confidence and gain clarity about your future.

Whatever your aims or goals, there’s no better place to start, especially with access to our Spring Lane Campus, providing practical experience with animals including wallabies, goats, meerkats and guinea pigs.

By the time you complete the course, you will understand animal management in theory, but also have experienced it first-hand, leaving you well prepared for university, higher-level apprenticeships or skilled employment.

• Business Development

Choosing EKC Canterbury College also means you have access to our Spring Lane Campus, where you can gain practical experience working with a variety of animals, including goats, meerkats, guinea pigs and snakes.

Your industry placement is a key part of your T Level, giving you the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a working environment. This experience helps you develop the technical and transferable skills employers value, while building confidence and understanding of the sector.

Through our strong links with local employers, you will also have opportunities to develop your skills beyond the classroom by hearing from guest speakers and College alumni.

Examples include visits from Howletts Animal Park and the UK Owl and Raptor Centre, where students have had the opportunity to handle birds of prey, including hawks, eagles and owls.
