Skills for Work Entry 2

Course overview

Our ‘Skills for Work’ courses introduce students to the world of work, as well as supporting them to develop their confidence and social skills.

A big focus is on key employability skills such as communication, teamwork and speaking to audiences, alongside embedded Maths and English.

Work experience placements, either in College or with an external employer, also help learners gain new experiences and explore future career options.

Learning is tailored to the individual, with personalised targets reviewed regularly to support progress.

Course information

On a ‘Skills for Work’ course, our curriculum ensures that all students receive the best start they can have before going into the world of work.

A core focus is ensuring that students gain the required skills needed for a range of career paths.

Skills learnt through this course include, but are not limited to:
• Confidence
• Speaking to audiences
• Communication
• Teamwork

Maths and English are also focused on in the course.

Additionally, students undertake a work experience placement one day per week, either in College or with an external partner.

All placements help to develop teamwork, communication and employability skills, in addition to exploring which areas the learner would like to go into.

Once a term we set new individualised targets to monitor and review students’ progress in their learning.
