A Level in Sociology

General entry requirements:

To study this A Level, you’ll need a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 or above across your top six subjects with at least a grade 5 or above in Maths and English Language or Literature. Please note: your GPA average can include English and Maths.



Subject-specific entry requirements:

To study Sociology, you’ll need a grade 5 in at least one other written subject (e.g. English Literature, History, Geography, Drama and Theatre, Business, Religious Studies etc).

In addition to in-class assessments at the end of each half term, which will help you understand your strengths and areas for improvement, your final grade will be generated from results in three two-hour examinations.

You can progress into a wide range of opportunities after this course, which includes progressing to a relevant degree apprenticeship or attending university to continue your education.

Trips include Sociology conferences in London, visiting universities and and
having guest speakers in. There will be opportunities to go on visits with other
subjects like Law, Criminology, History and Psychology.

A Level Sociology is an excellent preparation for university study, where
strong essay writing skills are very important. Universities recognise that
Sociology A Level provides students with a very good foundation in social,
political and policy knowledge.

It is a stepping stone to careers such as lawyer, journalist, crime analyst,
police officer, social worker, teacher and professor. The opportunities are
endless!

This is a challenging subject in both its academic rigour but also in some of the content it requires you to consider and research.

Sociology students will also have the opportunity to take up a related Extended Project Qualification in Anthropology.
