We caught up with your Student Experience Officers, Jordan and Ella, to find out what’s being happening at College this term, and what you have to look forward to.

What we have been up to…

Football Tournament

Student footballers from across East Kent Colleges Group came together to compete in a tournament at Ramsgate FC. Organised by Darren, the Student Experience Office at EKC Folkestone College. The teams played their top players in the hope of taking home the tournament trophy. The students involved had a brilliant time playing the other Colleges.

Trip to Wembley

The football events didn’t end there – the Students’ Union also organised an unforgettable trip to Wembley Stadium for a group of students. The stands were packed, and the atmosphere was electric as fans showed their support. Both staff and students enjoyed the experience, cheering on the Lionesses as they secured a 1-0 win against Spain.

Money Day

Alongside the bursary team the SU hosted a ‘Money Day’ event in The Street, a chance for students to get some top tips. There were a variety of stalls offering advice on budgeting, meal planning, student discounts, and the support services on offer within the College. We also had stalls from local banks offering banking and work advice.

Police Officer Talks

A Police Officer from Kent Police has been visiting regularly this term to deliver talks around the College on the important topic of stopping violence against women and girls. In addition, they have been running pop up stalls in the LRC for students to drop in with any concerns or questions.

This will be ongoing at EKC Canterbury College with a variety of talks on different topics planned across the year. Pop into the LRC if you’d like to know when they will next be in.

International Women’s Day Concert

The SU marked International Women’s Day with a concert held in The Street, featuring performances from some of our incredibly talented Music students. The event created a great atmosphere and brought the College together to celebrate the occasion.

Alongside the music, there were a variety of stalls highlighting the achievements of influential women across different fields. Students could access helpful information and support from the charity ‘Cancer Smart’, who were there offering advice on women’s health and cancer awareness.

Mock Interview Day

The SU recently worked alongside the careers team to hold a mock interview day. An event which offered students a chance to practice and learn interview techniques and be offered career guidance.

Students received a motivational talk before being interviewed about future career aspirations and next steps. Following their interview, they had the opportunity to meet with a careers advisor to discuss any further support they need.

Easter treats in Supported Learning

The SU worked with Supported Learning students to create chocolate rice crispy Easter cakes! These were not only enjoyed by the students but also shared with the Senior Leadership Team.

we have had a number of displays and activities up in the LRC over the term covering a variety of national and internationally recognised days including:
