We caught up with Max, who is currently studying Uniformed Public Services.
He told us about his experience on the course, the opportunities he’s had and how he has his sights set on a future career in the police. Here’s what he had to say:
I chose to study Level 3 Uniformed Public Services because I want to join the police once I’ve finished College. I think the course has definitely been the right choice for me, as it’s given me the chance to learn about the police and other public services.
What I’ve enjoyed most about the course is definitely the people and the teachers. They really do help you, and there are lots of opportunities to get involved in different things.
I’ve been to farms to help out and even travelled to Thailand for two weeks, where I spent time with the police, fire and ambulance services there. It was so interesting to see how these services function in a different country and culture.
We’ve also had the chance to take part in unique activities like a crime scene simulation scenario where we were able to test our instincts and ability to remain calm. I really enjoyed that experience as I was able to get hands-on experience pretending to be a police officer and crime scene investigation officer so now I know the kinds of tasks and things they’d look for when attending a major crime scene.
At College I’ve definitely been able to do a lot that I probably wouldn’t normally be able to do. These experiences have given me the chance to learn a lot and have been a big part of what I’ve enjoyed about studying Public Services. I definitely think the course is helping me prepare for a career in the police.
Once I finish College, I want to join the police. I plan to apply straight after College and then work my way up from there. As long as I’ve got my Maths and English and all my fitness levels, then there’s no reason why I shouldn’t be able to do it.
Looking back, I wasn’t going to choose Public Services at first, but now I know it was definitely the right choice for me. It’s been very different environment and hard work at times, but I’ve done lots of things I never would have been able to do, and I’ve learnt a lot that will help me in my future career.
If you’re thinking about applying for Public Services, I’d definitely recommend it.
