This autumn, Media Production students at EKC Canterbury College are taking to the airwaves with an exciting collaboration with Rotary Radio UK, a Kent-based radio station that reaches audiences across the globe.
This year’s project challenges students to create an engaging 10 to 15-minute podcast, with the best ones set to be broadcast live on air. Students have been given creative freedom to explore topics, ranging from personal passions and hobbies to important social issues they feel are important to share with listeners.
Chairman of Rotary Radio, Steve Wood and Director, John Robinson visited the College to launch the project, giving their advice, and setting a clear creative direction. “Have fun with your podcast” was their key message, which has been taken on board by the students as they get to work over the next few weeks.
For the Media Production students, this project represents a unique opportunity to gain experience in professional broadcasting. The selected podcasts will reach Rotary Radio’s global audience, with the station spanning a range of music such as classical, pop, jazz, and easy listening programming, alongside community-focused content.
Later in the year, the podcasts to be broadcast live will be chosen, with a special prize announced for the top production. Broadcast dates will be confirmed alongside the winners.
Based at The Oast Business Centre in Sittingbourne, Rotary Radio UK promotes Rotary causes and events across the world. This project with EKC Canterbury College is part of their commitment to improving lives and giving people a voice.
The department and the students look forward to continuing their work with Rotary Radio UK, and this marks the beginning of what promises to be an exciting ongoing partnership.
