Access to HE students explore the University of Greenwich, London

4 December 2024
Students learned about a variety of Health degrees, took part in practical sessions and visited the University simulation wards.

Access to Health students at EKC Canterbury College enjoyed their educational visit to University of Greenwich, London where they learned about a variety of Health degrees and were able to take part in practical sessions and visit the simulation wards.

The day included impactful skills sessions and students practised taking body observations such as heart rate, oxygen levels, and blood pressure on each other. They had access to state-of-the-art simulation wards and theatre, which replicate real hospital settings, using modern equipment.

They also attended an informative progression session, where they were able to explore different routes such as Degrees, HNC and HND courses, Foundation Degrees and Master level courses. These were in a range of subjects, including Midwifery, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Paramedic Science, Public Health and Speech and Language Therapy.

Access to Higher Education courses at EKC Canterbury College open the door to University-level study and make getting to University easier for adult learners who wish to return to education, but do not currently hold the entry requirements to apply for University.

Lisa Price, Health and Early Years Lecturer at EKC Canterbury College attended the event with the students.

After the event, she said: “A highlight of the day was visiting the labour ward, where students had the unique opportunity to assist in delivering their first baby!

“We extend our gratitude to University of Greenwich for this invaluable experience, which has greatly clarified our students’ UCAS applications and future paths in health studies.”
