Step into the world of media and start creating the content you see every day. From radio and TV scripts to magazines and digital platforms, this course is your introduction to how stories are told across the modern media landscape.

You’ll explore how ideas become real media products and learn how to plan, create and produce content across a range of formats. Whether you’re interested in presenting, filming, editing or designing, this course helps you build the skills and confidence to get started.

Designed as a starting point, this course gives you a strong foundation in media production and a portfolio of work that prepares you to progress onto a Level 3 course and continue your journey into the creative industries.

This course is suitable for students who have achieved a 4/C grade in English and Maths. If you have not yet achieved this grade you will need to complete the course over two years. This provides you with additional time to achieve a Level 2 in English and/or Maths, with additional trips, activities, employer engagement opportunities.

Course information

Start working like a content creator as you explore how media products are made. Plan your own ideas, develop storyboards and bring them to life across print, audio and video.

You’ll step into the studio and get hands-on with industry equipment as you record radio shows and podcasts, operate cameras and audio gear, learning how to capture professional-quality content.

Become familiar with using digital software as you edit and refine your work, shaping your content through post-production to create polished final pieces. Throughout this course you’ll build confidence in how to tell stories that engage and connect with an audience.

You will develop skills in:
• Creating magazine and print designs
• Recording and editing radio shows and podcasts
• Using TV studio, video and audio equipment
• Post-production and editing techniques
• Storyboarding and developing media ideas

Gain real insight into the industry through mentorship, hands-on experience and professional exposure. Throughout the year, you’ll build a portfolio that shows your progress, creativity and potential, helping you take the next step onto a Level 3 course.
