National Apprenticeship Week 2026: Apprentice spotlight

8 February 2026
This National Apprenticeship Week, we spotlight Manashe, a graduate apprentice making a real impact after achieving a Distinction in his Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship.

This National Apprenticeship Week, we celebrate the success of our apprentices and the significant impact they are making across workplaces in East Kent.

In this blog, we are focusing on one of our graduate apprentices, Manashe. He recently completed his Level 3 Business Administrator Apprenticeship with EKC Canterbury College while working for Credit Limits International, achieving a Distinction.

We caught up with Manashe after his graduation ceremony last October to talk about his tremendous achievement. He shared how his apprenticeship has helped him grow in confidence, and why he would recommend considering one.

What made you choose an apprenticeship route?

I was originally at university, but I was struggling and started applying for jobs to explore other options. During that time, I was fortunate to be offered a Business Administration role with EKC Canterbury College, working for Credit Limits International.

The process was very smooth. I was invited for an interview, and within about two weeks I had started the apprenticeship. I was really keen to begin as soon as possible.

Is there a moment from your apprenticeship that really stands out to you?

Finishing my first exam is something I’ll never forget. We received the results quite quickly, and it was a huge relief, especially knowing we needed distinctions in both exams to achieve an overall distinction! Graduation day was another standout moment. That’s definitely one I’ll always remember.

How did you manage balancing work, learning, and life outside the apprenticeship?

The balance was really good for me. My employer was very supportive and allowed me time during my working day to complete College work. I had designated days to attend College and days focused on coursework, which made it much easier to manage both working and learning at the same time.

Who or what helped keep you motivated throughout the apprenticeship?

My manager, Katie, played a big part. She was always motivating me and encouraging me to push myself and do my best. I was also lucky to be in a company where people genuinely want to see you progress. They’re always encouraging us to take on new courses and think about how we can benefit our future.

How has completing the apprenticeship changed how you see yourself?

It’s changed me in a really positive way. When I first started, I wasn’t sure how I’d manage in an office environment as it was my first office role. The Apprenticeship allowed me to learn while working, with great support from both the College and my mentor, Sarah. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become more confident and outgoing. It was a big change, but one that I really enjoyed and learnt a lot from.

What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?

I would definitely recommend it. If I had the choice again, I probably wouldn’t have gone to university first; I would have gone straight into an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships aren’t always talked about enough, so people don’t always realise how good an option they are. I really believe they’re a great route, especially in today’s world, and I’d encourage anyone to go for it if they have the opportunity.

What’s next for you?

I’m hoping to progress onto a Level 4 Business Administration Apprenticeship as my next step. If not, I’ll look at another course; my manager is always encouraging me to keep learning and developing. Either way, I definitely see more training and development in my future.
