A levels in Physics

General entry requirements:

To study this A Level, you’ll need a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6 or above across your top six subjects with at least a grade 6 or above in Maths and a grade 5 or above English Language or Literature. Please note: your GPA average can include English and Maths.



Subject-specific entry requirements:

To study Physics, you’ll need a grade 6 or above in Maths, a 5 or above in English Language or Literature, a grade 5 or above in a single Science Physics or a 5 and 5 or above in Combined Science.

There will be in-class assessments at the end of each half term to check your progress and identify revision and areas of excellence you can move beyond.

Your final grade will be assessed on your performance in three two-hour exam papers.

You will also need to successfully complete practical assessments throughout the two years.

After completing this course, students can attend university or apply for a degree apprenticeship. After a Higher Education course, you may progress into careers such as an astronomer, medical physicist, forensic scientist, lecturer, nanotechnologist, radiation protection practitioner, research scientist, nuclear engineer, laser engineer, architect or sports scientist.

Trips to the Science and Natural History Museums, Greenwich Royal Observatory, University visits. You will visit Thorpe Park to study the physics of roller coasters.

Academics and experts in the field of Physics will also deliver talks and lectures.

Students will need a scientific calculator.

Physics is usually studied alongside Chemistry, Biology, Maths and/or Further Maths as they all complement each other well.

It can also be alongside Fine Art for students with ambitions to study Architecture.

It can also be paired with Sport and Physical Education for those interested in Sports Science, particularly Biomechanics and movement. Physics is also an excellent choice for those interested in Geology and the environment, and as such combines well with Environmental Science and Geography.
