A Level in Environmental Science

For an A Level programme of study, we require students to have a range of at least five to seven GCSE passes at grade 5 or higher, including a minimum of a 4 in English and Mathematics, but students must also satisfy the minimum entry criteria for A Level Environmental Science below.

• Grade 5 in GCSE Mathematics

And

• Grade 5 in either the first or second grade GCSE Combined Science or a GCSE in single subject science

And

• Grade 5 in at least one other predominantly written based GCSE subject (from subjects such as English Language, English Literature, History, Religious Studies or Sociology)

This subject is assessed in two examinations in the second year.

To support you with achievement in these exams, you will have formative assessments such as homework, essays, reports and mock exams.

Studying Environmental Science will give you a wealth of opportunities. Many learners decided to continue into Higher Education upon completion of their A Levels, but you may also wish to explore higher level apprenticeships, internships or traineeships in the ever-growing Environmental Science sector.

Future career opportunities can include environmental specialists, nuclear waste management, geologists, landfill engineers, ecologists, wildlife conservation, urban planning and zoology.

You will attend several working trips and visits to sites such as water treatment facilities, nuclear power stations and waste management facilities.

Further necessary trips will be to local nature hotspots to undertake ecological survey methods, landform and processes surveys and outdoor lab studies.

You will also be given the opportunity to hear speakers from a range of environmental science organisations.

Students who study this programme should come with a passion for the conservation of life, the nurturing of ecosystems and an interest in the importance of energy resources in the development of society.
