Travel & Tourism

Introduction

Travel and Tourism is about far off shores and foreign travel, as well as tourism in the UK. You’ll learn about the people that work behind the scenes to get people to and from their destinations (and make sure they enjoy their stay). You will be taught by lecturers who have worked in the Travel and Tourism industry. As part of the final year, students can go on a trip abroad to gain further understanding of other cultures and put their learning into practice. Previous trips have been to Morocco, Gambia, Italy, France and Belgium. Following a pathway in Travel & Tourism will give you the skills and qualifications to progress to university or into the industry. You will have the opportunity to train on a real airplane as a cabin crew member. This is essential experience for anyone looking at work as cabin crew, and if useful for those expecting to deal with customers, complaints and unexpected scenarios in their future profession. Students who successfully complete the Resort Representative qualification are guaranteed an interview with Thomas Cook if they meet the other entry criteria.

Work Experience Works

Travel & tourism student lands herself a full-time job as a result of her work experience

“This work experience has helped me decide what type of job I wanted and I wasn't initially sure whether I wanted to become a travel agent and now I enjoy it so much I couldn't think of anything else I would do. I love the customer facing side of things and building on my relationships with customers." Courtney Beeching, Travel & Tourism BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3

"Courtney has been brilliant. She's incredibly enthusiastic and positive and makes an effort to be approachable to customers. She's sociable, really confident speaking to customers and her personality shines through. It can be a challenging job but she's absolutely thriving!" Sarah Holland, Thomson
