A job in the public services means real variety and new challenges every day. Whether you want to join the armed forces, emergency services or even air-sea rescue, we can help you get there. Lessons don’t just take place in the classroom. A career in the public services could see you tackling challenging scenarios in a variety of locations. We have close links to Kent Police, the Kent Fire and Rescue Service, the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines and the Army – many of whom visit the College to give advice on starting your career.
Work experience is an essential part of the Study Programme and must be undertaken by all students. Some students have taken up opportunities to do work experience in the armed forces with the ‘Look at Life’ programmes. Students go on trips to test their skills in new environments. Our residential trips involve surfing, canoeing, hiking, rock climbing and orienteering, while visits to the Army Reserve allow you to see what life in the armed forces is really like.

Work Experience Works
Public Service students put through their paces at Royal Marine Commando Training Centre
“I enjoyed the harsh physical training and exercises that Sgt Walker and his fellow Marines set us throughout the week. It was a great opportunity and I learnt a lot about life in the Royal Marines." Matthew Brisley, Level 3 Public Services
"The students performed well, especially when their age is taken into account. This work experience is a true reflection of life in The Royal Marines so will help them to prepare for their future roles and responsibilities" Sgt Jon Walker, Royal Marines
