This programme provides a broad understanding of the mechanical engineering industry, whilst allowing students to develop their own specialist skills in the second year.
Course Content:
The programme includes the following modules: Product Design Applications, Applied Science and Systems Technology, Business Management Applications, Applications of Thermofl uids Mechanics, Design for Manufacturing, Materials Technology, Advanced CAD Techniques, Manufacturing Processes and Materials.Entry Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one of the following: 1 A level/Advanced GCE or 2 AS levels in Maths, Physics, IT or Design Technology (for AS entry these must be at Grade B or above or equivalent qualifi cation, with at least one in Maths or Physics) plus 5 GCSEs at C or above including Maths and English; a BTEC National Diploma preferably in Design, IT or equivalent. Foundation Degree assessment is by a mixture of coursework, project work, examinations and work-based assignments.Progression:
The programme equips students for Senior Technician roles in areas such as design engineering and manufacturing or for progression to a Bachelor's degree. This qualifi cation may be used as a pathway to registration with a number of professional bodies including the Institution of Incorporated Engineers in Mechanical Engineering, the Institution of Plan Engineers and the Institution of Engineering Designers.
