Music Technology BTEC Extended Diploma - Level 3

This course is designed for students who are interested in the music industry. The course has a broad structure to enable students to fi nd their particular area of interest. Formal music training is not required but knowledge of basic music theory and terminology will help.

Course Content:

Music sequencing, sound recording, the sound & music business, computer music systems, special subject investigation, live sound, listening skills for music technologists, acoustics, and digital audio concepts. You will study additional qualifi cations in podcasting, employment skills and functional skills as part of your course.

Entry Requirements:

5 GCSE passes at grade C or above including Maths and English or a BTEC Diploma with a Merit profi le and appropriate functional skills. Entry is subject to a successful interview and audition, test, and attendance at a compulsory summer school.

Assessment:

Through a combination of written assignments, tests, practical work, group projects, and exams.

Progression:

Guaranteed Higher Education Progression at Canterbury College (see page 13). Students may progress to an HND in Music Technology, direct onto a degree programme, or employment in the industry.

Additional Information:

ITrips are offered to British Music Experience, Music Live, and the Royal Festival Hall. Costs of additional trips will have to be met by the students.

Work experience:

Students are encouraged to undertake a 2 week work placement in the 2nd year of the course.
