Graphic Design BTEC Extended Diploma - Level 3
This course will give you a comprehensive introduction to the graphic design industry. You will have the opportunity to learn both traditional skills and the very latest technological techniques. You will also develop the personal and professional qualities and resourcefulness that are essential for careers in the industry. Work-related projects are an integral part of the course.
What will I learn?
You will learn about idea generating techniques, image manipulation, logo design, illustration, art & design history, drawing skills, packaging, advertising, typography, design & layout techniques, photography, web design and extensive tuition on the Apple Mac. Work-related 'live' projects within the industry are also an important part of the course.
How will I be assessed?
Coursework is assessed through observations, assignments, tutorials and group critical discussions and a final exhibition of your work.
What may it lead to?
Guaranteed Higher Education Progression at Canterbury College (see page 13). Students from this course have an excellent record in gaining places on degree courses such as Graphic Design, Advertising, Graphic & Visual Communication, Illustration, Photography, Typography, Animation, Games Design, Fashion, Fine Art and Architecture.
Entry Requirements:
4 GCSEs at grade C or above (preferably Art/ Graphics and English) or BTEC First Diploma in Design or equivalent. A portfolio of varied artwork is essential.

Work experience: Work related projects and work placement within the industry are important parts of the course.
Additional fees will be discussed at interview. We offer an exciting range of study trips and gallery visits for all Art and Design courses in the UK, Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Barcelona and Rome.
