Canterbury College is turning Blue Monday on its head and celebrating, creating experiences that radiate happiness and fun.
The Students' Union have organised a range of activities for the students to enjoy. In the Street, students from Hair & Beauty were offering face painting, hairstyling, and bright glitter colours to create sparkling appearances.
Hot chocolates and blue sweets were also being given out on a bustling stall and a student DJ took music requests to play in the Street. Another initiative included many small blue envelopes that held motivational quotes. These could be taken by any student and included messages such as ‘Believe in yourself’, giving students an extra boost of happiness on this Blue Monday.
Elsewhere, in the main hall, there were plenty of puppies for students to pet. Labradors roamed the hall with some of Canterbury College’s Animal Care students bringing huge smiles to students’ faces. What could be more fun than playing with an excitable pup?
Mel Gates, Animal Management Lecturer, said: “It was very enjoyable. It turned my Blue Monday around.”
Pasha, Student Experience Officer, said: “We asked Class Reps what they would like to see on Blue Monday. They love hot chocolate and wanted to include some kind of furry animal. Dogs are accessible to all, including our supported learners, and we felt this was the best way to make people feel good. It was a chance to make everyone smile.”
Following a range of activities and student participation, this year’s Blue Monday at Canterbury College will be remembered as anything other than a grey day.
