Open Day - What to Expect

What to expect at Open Day

An open day is your best opportunity to uncover what you really want to know about our courses and experience an insight into college life; the things you can’t get from a prospectus!

On arrival, if you pre-registered you will have a fast-tracked entrance. Our members of staff will sign you in and hand you a map and a course guide and will then direct you to where you need to go. We will also have a number of information points throughout the campus if you need further information on the duration of your visit.

At Open Day, you'll be able to get an impression of student life and make enquiries about the courses on offer. You can also to speak to our tutors, current students and explore our classes, workshops and facilities on our department tours.

Expect our campuses to come to life at Open Day with:

Department Activities

To get a feel of what your course will cover we will be holding a variety of workshop activities taking place within each department that you can get involved with.

Interested in animal care and veterinary nursing courses? Interact with the animals and reptiles and find out the best way to groom a dog with our live demos.

Or, if you’re interested in our building services, construction, engineering or motor vehicle courses then we have a number of practical activities taking place.

You can also experience the theatre environment by watching a performance in our Lanfranc theatre, or if you’re thinking of applying for our science courses then take part in one of our experiments.

This is just to name a few of the activities; we are looking forward to seeing you on the day to tell you about the rest.

Get a feel of the environment you’ll be studying in and view our excellent facilities with our department tours. If there is a specific course you’re interested in, drop-in to one of the department activities taking place or see teaching and learning happening in one of our classes.

Simply ask a member of staff or student ambassador who will be clearly visible at a number of information points.

Head of College Presentations

Hear from the Head of Canterbury College, Lucy McLeod, on her vision for the College and why she believes it's a perfect place for you to make the transition from school to further education.

There will be a number of talks taking place throughout the day to ensure you’re able to attend at 1:45pm, 3pm, 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.

Ask us at the information points to find out where the talks will be taking place. We look forward to welcoming you at one of the talks.

Information and guidance sessions

Speak to our information and guidance careers team to find out your options. You can also speak to our admissions staff and finance team to find out everything you need to know before joining.

You will get all of the information you need to make the right decision.

Ask the industry expert tutors

Our tutors are passionate about their courses and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about the course or college life in general.

Current students will also be on hand to give you a tour of the College and answer your questions on what life is like at Canterbury College for them and why moving to college was the best decision for them.

Filming and photography

Please note that filming and photography may take place at our Open Days. Filming and photography is for Canterbury College marketing purposes only.

We like to show others how exciting our open days are, but if you would not like your image to be taken, please let the member of staff filming know.
