Project Launch and sequence of operations
Canterbury College submits a full planning application for Phase 1. This is underpinned by five ‘supporting strategies’ for the site. Detailed planning permission is granted and funding approved by the Government. Phase 1 of the re-development is valued at £17.403m and providing 10,196m² of new floor space.
The Children’s Centre comprises of: baby rooms; toddler rooms; a pre-school room; associated storage; toilets and changing areas; a reception; staff accommodation; a kitchen; a laundry room; an external secure play area; and a pushchair store.
Land Based Centre
The Land-Based Centre provides accommodation for: reptile, aquatic, bird and small mammal rooms; a dog grooming area; classrooms; a food prep and storage area; staff accommodation; and welfare facilities.
Motor Vehicle Workshop
The new Motor Vehicle Centre provides accommodation for: the motor vehicle workshop; an MOT test centre; staff accommodation; and welfare facilities. An external secure compound for vehicles storage is adjacent to the Centre.
The recently completed Post-16 Centre provides accommodation for the 6th form centre. It includes classrooms for English, Humanities, Maths, Modern Foreign Languages, and the Science department which includes laboratories and prep areas.
The new Technology Centre provides accommodation for: carpentry; fabrication & welding; trowel trades; plumbing workshops; classrooms; laboratories; staff rooms; and welfare facilities.
