Ofsted Inspection Feedback
The College has received an overall 'good' rating from the Government's education regulator, Ofsted.
It marks an exceptional turnaround for the College, which has worked tirelessly to raise standards after receiving a 'requires improvement ' grading in its last two inspections.
In what is a fantastic achievement, the Inspectors graded seven out of eight areas as Good. These are:
- Quality of teaching, learning and assessment
- Outcomes for students
- Personal development
- Behaviour and welfare
- 16 to 19 study programmes
- Provision for students with high needs.
The report noted how “highly capable senior leaders, directed by an inspirational Principal, have had a rapid and significantly positive impact on the culture of the college and on the quality of teaching and learning.”
Other areas of the report praised the “very good range of specialist support” available to students and commended staff for embracing improvement strategies.
Canterbury College Principal, Graham Razey, said: “It's a great achievement and I'm proud of the progress made since the last inspection in 2015. In a short space of time, our grading has been raised from 'requires improvement' to ‘good’, which is testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff.
“The report specifically states we share a determination to improve students’ opportunities and experiences which is what we set out to achieve. We look forward to an exciting future and will build on this excellent progress."
Colin Carmichael, Chairman of the Governing Body, added: "The Governors are, of course, delighted with the Ofsted view of the College. Remarkable progress has been made since we appointed the new management team last summer, and it is very good to see the experience and learning opportunities for our students improving all the time. We look forward to even better things as we move towards amalgamation with East Kent College."
