Wheelchair Basketball's a hit at Fair for All

Students have a go at wheelchair basketball as part of this year’s Fair for All event

Students have been joining in a variety of events, including wheelchair basketball, dance routines, fitness exercises and science experiments at the latest Fair for All event at Canterbury College.

The mini festival, which is held twice a year in the main Street area of the New Dover Road campus, is designed to celebrate equality and diversity.

One of the main attractions this time around was a series of wheelchair basketball coaching sessions by Kent Disability Sports Manager Mike Bishop.

Around 80 sports students from the College were joined by classes from nearby St Nicholas School for training in the College Sports Hall.

James Reeves, Section Manager for Sport, Leisure, Travel & Tourism and Hospitality & Catering at Canterbury College, said: “This was a fantastic event which gave the students a real insight into not just wheelchair sport but also the everyday problems a wheelchair user may go through. We are already planning to work with Mike on future projects.”

Other exhibitors at Fair for All included homeless charity Porchlight, Hilary Lister’s Dream Trust, the Army, Seeds for Africa – a charity that helps African families and communities by providing seeds, plants and agricultural equipment, Connexions and KAB.

There were also displays and have-a-go sessions provided by the Dance, Science and Art Departments from the College while music students staged a ‘Gig on the Grass’, which included a range of performances on the lawn area at the front of the main College building.
