One of the country’s leading facilities management firms has praised the IT Department at the Sheppey Campus of Canterbury College, after a recent visit to interview students for potential employment with the company.

Representatives from Norland Managed Services first visited the campus, on Bridge Road in Sheerness, last November to speak to students about the range of roles available in the IT sector and what employers are looking for from younger people starting their careers.

They recently returned to the campus to interview a group of students studying for a BTEC National Diploma Level 2 and 3 in ICT

Norland Managed Services currently employs over 2,300 staff, has a 23% growth year on year and created 400 new jobs in 2010.

Barry Robinson, IT Services Director at Norland Managed Services, said: “We are always looking to employ new talent into the organisation and believe that a more direct relationship between ourselves and the education sector will allow that talent to be identified.” Barry added: “We found the range of subjects included within the ICT courses at Sheppey Campus to provide an excellent broad selection of skills. Modules such as Communications and Employability Skills are critical for students leaving education and progressing to the corporate sector.”

Norland Managed Services has offices across the country and works with some of the UK’s best known companies including Bloomberg, The O2 Arena, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Experian and Scottish Power.

Clare Baker-Harrison, Vocational Team Leader at the Sheppey Campus of Canterbury College, said: “It’s fantastic that a company the size of Norland Managed Services are so impressed with what the students here are achieving. Many of our students go on to university, but this gives them another option of considering going straight into employment. We really hope the relationship with Norland continues.”
