Thousands Attend Canterbury College Open Day

Despite the high profile issues around university education is receiving at present, interest in Further Education and Higher Education in courses is strong.

More than 2,000 visited Canterbury College for the Open Day on Wednesday (10th November) and the Main Street and Hall areas inside the campus were home to stands and displays showcasing over 500 courses.

Academic and support staff from across the College were on hand to give talks, demonstrations, information and advice.

Among the displays were sculptures from the Fine Arts, Crafts and Design department, while manicures were available in the Beauty and Holistic Therapy area and performances were staged throughout the afternoon in the Drama Theatre.

The Canterbury College Student Union, recently voted the best in the UK, was also on hand to talk about how to get the most out of the College experience with their diary of hundreds of activities, clubs and trips.

Tours of the £50million pound campus were available with visitors able to see facilities including the Learning and Resources Centre, Food Hall and on site shops.

As well as being able to enrol early for courses next September, students were also able to find out about courses starting in January as well as get impartial advice on careers, money and travel.

Mark Hill, Director of Business Development and Associated Services said: “We were pleased to see so many people from Canterbury and the surrounding areas come and find out about the College. Canterbury College has grown to be one of the largest colleges in the South East, offering the widest range of academic, vocational courses and apprenticeships.” He added: “We are very proud of our modern state of the art campus, links with local employers and industry and the outstanding achievements of our students.”

The next open day at Canterbury College is on Friday 18th February 2011.
