A group of students from Canterbury College have been checking out the progress being made to the 2012 Olympic Park, with less than 500 days to go until the opening ceremony.
During a one hour tour of the site in Stratford, East London, the students got to see all of the venues including the main stadium, velodrome and aquatics centre.
The students are currently studying a range of courses including construction, engineering, public services and sport and were chosen by their tutors to go on the visit as recognition of their positive contribution to overall College life.
Harry Fox, one of the students who went on the trip, said: “The Olympic Park was awesome with great landscapes. I can’t wait to see Usain Bolt and the Athletics competition if I’m lucky enough to get tickets.”
In 2009, Canterbury College student Reiss Evans from Dover, saw off competition from more than 150 young people across the UK to win first place in the National competition to design the education logo for the London 2012 Olympics.
The education logo has been awarded to schools and colleges across the UK which join the Get Set network – part of the official London 2012 education programme. Canterbury College was the first College to join the Get Set network, Get Set is a special community of schools and college which are demonstrating a commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values.
