Models show off creations at the Apprentice Hair Show

Apprenticeship Hairdressing students studying at the Sheppey Campus of Canterbury College have been showing-off their skills at a recent Hair Show.

The event, which took place at the campus on Bridge Road in Sheerness, involved the 10 students who are currently on the Apprenticeship programme which allows them to combine working at a salon while studying for a qualification.

The theme of the show was based on practical units the students have been studying within their City & Guilds NVQ level 2 qualification, with focus on plaiting and twisting the hair into a style.

The winning student at the event was Amber Foley, 16, who is completing her Apprenticeship at Blond-e salon in Sittingbourne.

Cheryl Philpott, Hairdressing Course Tutor, said: “The show was a great success; all the students worked to a very high standard and produced some fantastic work. The show had a great response from all the employers who attended, they all commented on the high standard of work, considering the students have only been on the Apprentice programme since September 2010.”

While this show celebrated the achievements of Apprentice Hairdressers from Sheppey Campus, another Hair Show is planned for students completing their NVQ Level 3 in Hair Dressing.

“Hair in Their Eyes” a Hair Extravaganza is taking place on Tuesday 26th April at Sheppey Campus at 5pm, tickets cost £2.50 with proceeds being donated to FSID – the UK’s leading baby charity working to prevent sudden deaths and promote health.
