Racing Ahead at Canterbury College
How do you get the perfect body? Ask Andrew Livesey, he has the answer to the secrets every budding motor enthusiast ever wanted to know!
Andrew is not only an expert in his field, with more than 37 years of experience in FE teaching, but has also worked alongside many famous names in McClaren’s Formula One team, training many of their engineers whilst running the Foundation Degree and HND Programmes in Motor Sport Engineering at Oxford Brookes University.
Andrew started as an automotive engineer apprentice at a garage in Burnley, which inspired him to train on day release at his local College. This developed into a desire for learning and later a HNC in Engineering. Andrew extended his engineering passion further by entering into teaching in Manchester, where he also read for his Bachelor’s Degree.
Since Burnley, Andrew and his family have lived in Somerset and Surrey, but now love living by the sea in Herne Bay, where he moved to with wife Jean three years ago.
Formerly Head of Engineering at North West Kent College, Andrew Livesey has now been appointed as Head of Faculty for Engineering and Construction at Canterbury College, bringing fresh and inspirational ideas with him.
With a whole new look, the Engineering and Construction Faculty has already undergone a complete transformation during Phase 1 of the College’s Redevelopment Programme, with state-of-the-art equipment and technology available to all Students.
Andrew said his main objective now is to turn Canterbury College’s Engineering & Construction Faculty into a Grade 1 learning facility by 2010. With an untold abundance of enthusiasm and years of curriculum expertise, this objective seems highly likely.
Andrew says “What I want to achieve is customer satisfaction. I hope to accomplish this by providing opportunities for interesting and enjoyable experiences, by getting learners on the right programmes and supporting them to realise their potential. One way I can do this is by offering greater curriculum choices”.
Drawing on his passion for Motor Sports, Andrew is keen to introduce Motor Sports courses onto the already comprehensive list of provisions offered, in the very near future.
Combining his personal love for motor sports along side his extensive knowledge of teaching, Andrew has also created a veritable name for himself as writer and editor in his field.
Having previously published five books including ‘Road, Race and Rally Tuning’, ‘Vehicle Mechanic and Electronic Systems’ and ‘GCSE Motor Vehicle Studies’, he can now boast his latest accolade ‘Vehicle Body Repairs’ as the latest string to his bow.
Along side writing his seventh book, it may come as a surprise with a schedule so hectic, that Andrew still manages to find time to fit in his own studies for a Masters Degree in Fine Art.
He is pictured here presenting his most recent book ‘‘Vehicle Body Repairs" to the Canterbury College Learning Resources Centre.
