Performing Arts Presents the Wedding Singer
The Royal Wedding maybe over, but it’s still all about dresses, tiaras, flowers and confetti as Performing Arts Students at Canterbury College put on a performance of The Wedding Singer, by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin.
Set in 1980’s, this romantic comedy musical tells the story of Robbie Hart, a third rate wedding singer who falls for Julia, the waitress with a heart of gold who’s due to wed rich guy Glen.
The Wedding Singer was first made famous by the 1998 film starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, before being turned into a colourful stage production which toured the UK in 2008.
The show, which is packed with entertainment, dancing, singing, big hair and spectacular wedding costume ensembles, takes place in the Lanfranc Theatre at Canterbury College from Wednesday 4th – Friday 6th May.
Proceeds from the performances are being donated to two local charities:
-
Porchlight – which is based in Canterbury and works with homeless people
-
Dave Lee’s Happy Holidays – Founded by comedian Dave Lee to provide holidays for disabled, sick and underprivileged children
