Nominations praise excellent teacher at Canterbury College
There is no better way to say thank you, nominating your teacher for the 2009 Teaching Awards is a fantastic way to give staff, schools and colleges the recognition they deserve. Alison Halsey has certainly achieved just that, after receiving a letter in the post from the College Principal informing her she had been nominated by her students for the 2009 National Teaching Awards.
Alison Halsey of Folkestone has been teaching at Canterbury College for over 10 years and teaches Business, retail and IT skills. The students who nominated her have just completed a BTEC National Certificate in Business and most have now moved on to complete higher education at Universities across the country.
The students found out about the teaching awards from the College website where they were asked to nominate who they believe deserved an award for a high quality of teaching.
“I’m so happy that I have been nominated, it’s a real pleasure to know that my students would do something like this for me, young people get so much negative press and this is such a positive thing, it really has given me such a boost”.
"The Teaching Awards provide a unique opportunity to celebrate those who, tirelessly and often selflessly, dedicate their lives to securing a future for the next generation" Lord Puttnam of Queensgate CBE.
The National Teaching Awards were set up in 1998 to celebrate and recognize the teaching profession; there have been more than 38,000 nominations since the awards started a decade ago. In a sample of almost 1000 people across the generations, 76% said they could still remember a teacher who inspired them at school or college.
