Kent Festival of Science returns with a bang to Canterbury College

Kent Science Festival

The Kent Festival of Science is one of the UK's largest Science Festivals, and is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. To commemorate this great achievement it will be returning to where it first began at Canterbury College for the biggest festival yet!

This half term (on the 17th and 18th February) the College's brand new campus will be home to the Science Festival and its array of forty different workshops, activities, live shows and hands on sessions.

The festival is open to everyone and has become a firm fixture in the local calendar attracting around 3,000 visitors each year.

Visitors to the festival in 2010 can expect to be thrilled by shows such as “Light Fantastic”, “The Air Show”, “The Amazing Bubble Show”, “Waterworld” amongst others. The Science Fairs regular wildlife experts, The Creepy Crawly Man, The Tropical Insect Man and The Birdman of Eagle Heights will be in attendance, and popular workshops such as “Can You Dig It”, “The K’Nex Challenge” and “The Solar Grand Prix” offer lots of hands on fun.

Alison Clarke, Principal of Canterbury College said: “We are delighted to welcome the Science Festival back to Canterbury College. This has always been an exciting event where people of all ages can learn and experience science whilst having fun together. It is a pleasure to see the College’s new facilities being used in this way”

Kevin Charles, Pfizer Public Affairs Manager (founder Sponsor), said:  “As one of the world’s foremost innovators in life sciences, Pfizer is delighted to be involved with the Kent Festival of Science and to share our passion for science with the next generation of scientists in East Kent.  We’ve planned an exciting two days of exhibitions and practical science demonstrations to enthuse curious minds of all ages, from the marvels of the human body to the ever-entertaining world of Oscar the talking Robot!” Other sponsors include EDF Energy, The Institute of Physics and Canterbury College.
