Kent and England's Tredders Visits College
Kent and England cricketer James Tredwell with students from the Sports Department at Canterbury College
Kent and England cricketer James Tredwell revealed details of his proudest moment in the game, favourite ground to play at and what life is like as a professional sportsman, during a visit to Canterbury College.
The spin bowler had been invited to speak to Sports Students at the New Dover Road campus, and managed to fit in a visit between training sessions and Kent’s latest four day game at the nearby St Lawrence Ground.
James told students how he’d grown up in a sporting family – his dad played football and cricket – and had a dream as a youngster to one day play cricket for England.
The 30 year-old, who made his debut for Kent in 2001, also spoke about training regimes and keeping fit as well as the pressures of being away from home for long periods of time while on England duty.
James went on to answer a variety of questions from the students, which included “what was it like to be in Australia when England retained the Ashes back in December?” James said: “It was absolutely amazing. I was in Australia with the England performance squad and the atmosphere was incredible. Normally when you’re playing cricket down under the Aussie crowd have a go at you, but people were actually coming up to us saying, ‘well done you deserved to win’ which was incredible.”
James, who’s played in one Test, five One Day Internationals and in two games at the recent World Cup, also told students that his proudest cricketing moment is collecting his first England cap from former captain Michael Atherton and Lords is his favourite ground to play at.
James Reeves, Section Manager for Sport, Leisure, Travel & Tourism and Hospitality & Catering at Canterbury College, said: “The students thoroughly enjoyed hearing from James about how he’s progressed from playing cricket at Folkestone to playing in the World Cup for England. As part of their course the students are taught a lot about training regimes, fitness and what it’s like to be a professional sports person, but it’s always great for them to hear from the real thing. We really appreciate James managing to fit in a visit during his very hectic schedule.”
