iPhone App Success for Former Student Jack
A former student at Canterbury College is hoping to make his mark on the computer games world after having an app published on the iPhone.
Jack Bulmer is currently in his final year at the University of Central Lancashire after completing a BTEC Extended Diploma (Level 3) in Games Development at the New Dover Road campus.
The 21 year-old from Rainham created an arcade style game designed around the concept of snooker in space, as part of a competition that took place while he was at University. After being shortlisted, Jack’s idea was chosen and is being published as a games app.
Jack is currently working with Supanetics Ltd who set the competition, to make any modifications to the game, and is hoping it will be available this summer.
Jack says he wouldn’t have achieved so much if it wasn’t for Canterbury College: “The Games Development course was a fantastic introduction to my university degree as I had already covered some of the content before I arrived. I had done plenty of work on 3D animation which a lot of other students joining the course hadn’t done before.” Jack added: “I’m really excited about the future and having one of my games published as an iPhone app has really inspired me.”
The course at Canterbury College covers areas including Character and Game Design, Sound within Games and 3D animation and digital graphics.
Course Lecturer Stuart Dodd, said: “The Games Development course has been running at Canterbury College for almost five years and it’s great to hear that our former students have gone onto achieve really good things. We are constantly updating the content of the course so it keeps right up to date with what’s going on in the games industry and puts our students in a brilliant position to progress to university or into employment.” Stuart added: “We like to keep in touch with former students to find out what they have gone on to do after leaving the College, and I’m really proud of what Jack has achieved; he’s an inspiration to our current students.”
