GCSE success at Canterbury College

George Oatridge

Canterbury College is again celebrating the success of its students after receiving this year’s GCSE results.

It has been an exceptional year as five students gained the top five marks in the country for their subjects; three received the top marks for Spanish, one for French and one for Italian.

On results day each student received a letter from the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance telling them of their success and congratulating them for their exceptional achievement. George Oatridge, 40 from Whitstable, who gained 100% for Italian was amongst 3,342 students which sat the exam this summer. George was delighted with his result as the only two words he knew before starting the course were buongiorno and grazie!

He said, “I decided to learn Italian because my 40th Birthday was coming up and I wanted to go to Rome and celebrate. I’d always thought the language was beautiful and took it on as a challenge.

I really didn’t expect to get 100%; I’m really excited about my result and grateful to my tutor Rebecca Apps for helping me to achieve this. I’ll definitely be doing the AS level in September.”

Lyn Brown, Director of Further Education added, "Canterbury College is delighted with the excellent GCSE results achieved by the language students at the college this year and would like to congratulate them."
