First FE College - BREEAM 2008 ‘Excellent’ Project
The College is delighted to announce that its final Phase Three redevelopment proposals have been confirmed as the first FE College at a provisional stage to be assessed independently as BREEAM Education 2008 ‘Excellent’ in England.
BREEAM is a demanding environment and sustainability standard applied to all FE College capital projects. Canterbury’s project team and designers have worked hard to ensure that the proposals for the final phase of the College’s successful redevelopment meet the highest environmental standards.
The assessors are so impressed with the College’s scheme that should it be approved for LSC funding, they intend to use Canterbury College as an example of good practice and to show other assessors and clients that BREEAM Excellent is achievable, whilst illustrating the approach that the design team took.
Under the Learning and Skills Council’s rules all FE colleges are required to achieve ‘Excellent’ status to be considered for funding, and whilst a number of colleges have already achieved this in previous versions the 2008 standard saw a considerable raising
of the bar. A bar that once again has been exceeded by Canterbury College.
