Children’s Centre receive letter from The Queen

The children and their letter from the Queen.

Children in the crèche at Canterbury College have received a special letter of thanks from Her Majesty The Queen.

In a series of history related activities; the children aged between 3-5 years learnt all about the Queen, Buckingham Palace and the Changing of the Guards. The class then drew pictures of The Queen and made paper crowns which they decorated with sequins and glitter.

The staff in the crèche were so impressed with the children’s hard work, that they took photographs of them in their crowns and sent them to Buckingham Palace.

A few weeks later, the children and staff were thrilled to receive an official response from Buckingham Palace, addressed directly to ‘The Children in the Butterfly Room’.

The letter thanked the children for their drawings and stated: ‘The Queen was so pleased to have your pictures and to see the photographs of you all wearing the crowns that you have made, The Queen will keep your pictures and sends her best wishes to you all”.

Debra Ashley who runs the Children’s Centre said: “We thought it would be a nice gesture to send the photographs to Buckingham Palace, but had no idea that we would actually get a reply.”

The letter was accompanied with a special Information Pack about the History of the Royal Family and included photos and worksheets.

When asked about The Queen, Hector McDonald aged four said: “We know all about The Queen, she is a very nice lady with lots of diamonds”.
