Travel & Tourism Students Visit the Gambia

Fourteen Travel & Tourism students from Canterbury College have just returned from a once in a lifetime trip to The Gambia.
 
The second year National Diploma students aged 17-21 spent a week in Kotu Beach, on the Atlantic Ocean, from where they embarked on a series of educational trips to villages, schools and the Capital City.
 
On the trip, the group experienced invaluable aspects of Gambian culture, hospitality and tourism and were also guests of a local business college, where they worked alongside Gambian students to prepare and present their ideas on Sustainable Tourism.
 
Graham Dwyer, one of two College lecturers that accompanied the students said: “Our visit to The Gambia was a hugely successful and enjoyable learning experience for all students. This is the first time we have visited a country as colourful, fascinating and culturally diverse as The Gambia and this is typical of the opportunities which we like to give students on our courses. The trip was so successful for everyone involved that we hope to make The Gambia a regular destination for future students”.
 
As part of the trip experience, each student contributed to the cost and helped collect donations for village projects and local schools.
 
The College has also been keen to embed excursions and trips into its courses that enrich the lives and learning of its students. These trips are designed to enrich student cultural knowledge, life experience and also demonstrate first-hand examples learnt on their course.
