Students step into the world of accounting
Students at Canterbury College celebrated stepping into the world of accountancy by becoming qualified accounting technicians.
Twenty-six Level 4 Accounting students were officially welcomed to the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) by other accountancy professionals, friends and family members at a certificate ceremony in the College’s Beretun restaurant.
The qualification means they can work in the industry and progress to running their own accounting practice. They also have some exemptions from further accounting qualifications.
The students received certificates from AAT Council member Andy Vanburen, who works for John Parker & Son in Canterbury. He spoke about the importance of joining the AAT, saying: “It’s such a good stepping stone to begin as an accountant and leads to progression and job prospects. Having the qualification opens up so many doors.”
AAT member Tony Mills gave a humorous and informative talk on becoming a member in practice, and AAT development manager Gemma Cozens talked about becoming a full member (MAAT).
The guests also enjoyed canapés made by Canterbury College Catering and Hospitality students.
