Students Reach Construction Contest Final
Two students from Canterbury College have made it through to the final of Skilled Up Kent 2011, a countywide competition for Construction students.
The Skilled Up Kent contest challenges students from five Colleges across the county to compete in six categories; Carpentry, Joinery, Brickwork, Painting & Decorating, Plastering and Tiling.
Students from Canterbury College, who are all apprentices, were entered into two categories, Carpentry and Bench Joinery. They were set a task to complete six eight hours during a heat staged in the purpose built workshops at the College Campus off New Dover Road.
Event sponsors Makita, the UK’s number one professional power took manufacturer, along with Thanet Tool Supplies of Ashford, provided tools for the contestants on the day, along with prizes, gift vouchers and certificates for the first, second and third placed competitors.
Shaun Vickers, Wood Occupations Lecturer at Canterbury College, said: “The students have really excelled themselves this year. They have worked really hard and I believe they have every chance of winning the Site Carpentry and Bench Joinery categories at the Kent final in June.”
The first place winners from Canterbury College will now compete against students from other Colleges across Kent at a grand final taking place on 29th June.
