Beauty Students Raise Funds for Alzheimer’s Society
How do you fancy the chance to de-stress and raise money for charity at the same time?
Beauty Therapy students at Canterbury College are giving you the chance to do just that as they offer a relaxing treatment in exchange for money that will go straight to a good cause.
More than 30 first year BTEC National Diploma Beauty Therapy students will be providing Back, Neck, Face and Scalp massages for £10 – with funds raised going to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Students will be giving up their evenings to provide the treatments at the College’s Beauty Salon based on New Dover Road. They have also designed posters and are visiting local businesses to encourage as many people as possible to get involved.
As well as helping to raise money for charity, the event also provides a great opportunity for the students to experience working with clients in a professional environment.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the chosen charity of the Beauty Therapy Department at Canterbury College for this academic year. Last year they raised more than £900 for good causes and have already exceeded that amount. In the past the Department has donated money to Help for Heroes, Pilgrims Hospices and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Alzheimer’s is the most common form of dementia and affects around 465,000 people in the UK. People in the early stages of the disease may experience lapses in memory and have problems finding the right words. As the disease progresses they may also become confused, forgetful, experience mood swings, become withdrawn and less confident.
Treatments are taking place at Canterbury College’s Beauty Salon on Wednesday 2nd March and Wednesday 9th March at 6pm or 6.45pm.
