College Redevelopment

Canterbury College have now completed Phase 1 and 2 (£50 million) ;

2007 saw the completion of Phase 1, which included the new Children’s Centre, Technology Centre, Land Based Centre, Motor Vehicle Centre and the Post 16 Centre which houses modern class rooms, study rooms and science laboratories.

Phase 2, completed in December 2007 gives the college a unique, street-like layout which has ‘front of house’ services open to the public including a snack shop, a travel shop and restaurant complete with training facilities.

The £50 Million redevelopment project at Canterbury College has won the LABC South East Building Excellence Awards event held in Brighton in June 2009. Canterbury College is also a finalist in the National Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence Awards to be held in October 2009 in London.

The College is now working towards Phase 3.  Phase 3 plans include a purpose built restaurant, open to the public where our catering students can develop their skills in a working environment. A spa and salon where our hair and beauty students will provide a full range of hairdressing and holistic beauty treatments will also be open to the public.  A new sports hall with space for four tennis courts, changing facilities, a fitness suite and physiotherapy rooms will be built on the site of the old hall. This will also be available to members of the public and community groups for hire.

Principal Alison Clarke said, "The College has successfully completed its first two phases of redevelopment on schedule and on budget – even winning the Regional Building Excellence Award for Phase 2. The College can now boast state of the art accommodation still unmatched in East Kent and continuously improving performance and success by our students, trainees and staff. The College will now focus on other options for the future progressive redevelopment of the remaining parts of the old campus building stock.”
